Join us at Stirchley Printworks for this one-day workshop with artist and printmaker Haseebah Ali. You will be guided and inspired by Haseebah as she teaches you about Islamic geometric patterns and how to create your own original prints inspired by this timeless, artistic practice. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers, as well as lino printers who want to learn more about traditional Islamic art and geometric pattern-making techniques. What to expect: - Learn about the history of Islamic geometric pattern and how it has been used in art and architecture. - Learn the basics of Islamic pattern making and how to construct a simple pattern using a compass and ruler. - Further your skills by experimenting with more complex templates and patterns. - Learn how to transfer your designs onto a lino block and carv your design using traditional tools - Learn how to roll out relief inks and experiment with mixing your own colours for printing - Experiment with different colours and approaches to relief printing to create a collection of your own original lino prints. About the Tutor: Haseebah Ali is an artist and arts educator based in Birmingham. Her work centres around cultural themes and occasionally political circumstances. Her artistic aim is to create work that not only educates her but the audience to which it is viewed. Ali’s work is centred around storytelling and conveying that through a visual language. As a printmaker working mainly with relief print and intaglio, Ali enjoys working with communities to exchange knowledge and uplift voices. *Please make sure to check the dates and be sure you can make the session.
