Join artist Viola Wang at Stirchley Printworks for a fun-filled weekend of ink, experimentation and cola (seriously) in this exciting, 2-day course! Kitchen lithography is an accessible, non-toxic printmaking technique that offers a fresh take on traditional lithography, using readily available materials like cola and kitchen foil. This course is perfect for both beginners and experienced artists looking to explore a new creative outlet; no prior experience necessary! In this course, you will: - Learn the fundamentals of lithography - Experiment with various materials and techniques - Learn how to troubleshoot and produce your own unique limited-edition lithographs. What to Expect: Day One: Introduction and presentation of kitchen lithography Experimenting with materials and image making methods Printing without a press Experimenting with Chine-collé and monotype Independent work to produce a small edition of prints Group discussion and review Day Two: Review from day one; Q&A Multiplate and multicolour approach Printing with a press Independent work to produce a small edition of prints Group discussion and review About Your Teacher Viola Wang is a versatile visual artist and author whose work is deeply rooted in printmaking. Her paintings, murals, illustrations, and artist’s books have been displayed at the RA Summer Show, the Transport Museum for London, and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. As an acclaimed children's book author and illustrator, Viola's stories reach a global audience. Printmaking, often the starting point of her projects, is at the core of her practice, whether it's an illustrated book or a mural design. She is also passionate about researching and developing a range of modern, sustainable, and accessible printmaking processes, especially Kitchen Lithography. *Please make sure to check the dates and be sure you can make both sessions.
