Service Description

Join us at Stirchley Printworks for this exciting collaborative workshop with Stirchley Printworks and Charlotte Powell AKA Charlotte Emma Patterns! In this two-day class, you'll learn how to screen print and sew your very own protest t-shirt using a unisex t-shirt pattern and jersey fabric. (The t-shirt pattern is available in unisex sizing XXS – XXXL (chest 90-143cm). If you fall outside of this size bracket, please get in touch and we can arrange an alternative pattern) You can choose from our popular ready-made Stirchley Printworks protest designs (We Support The Strikes, Save The Libraries, Smash Fascism) or create your own custom 1-colour design. After you’ve printed your tee, you will work with pattern maker Charlotte Powell to sew your t-shirt together and walk away with a unique you-made t-shirt! Included in this workshop: + All tools and equipment, including screen printing materials and use of Janome sewing machines. + Fabric (2 metres of organic cotton jersey in a light grey). If you would prefer to supply your own fabric, please get in touch before the class by emailing: stirchley.printworks@gmail.com + You will receive a PDF copy of the multi-sized unisex t-shirt sewing pattern and instructions following the class, so you can carry on sewing t-shirts at home. What to expect: + Learn about screen printing and how to create a 1-colour design for your t-shirt. + Learn how to print your design onto fabric and the appropriate ink to use. + Learn about working with sewing patterns and choosing a size. + Learn how to cut out pattern pieces in paper and fabric. + Learn how to sew stretch fabric on a sewing machine. + Sew a simple garment (t-shirt) from start to finish. As this is a two-day workshop, you will need to attend both sessions to complete your t-shirt. The course will run as follows: Week 1: + Work out your pattern size. + Cut out your fabric ready for sewing. + Choose from one of our ready-made designs or create your own 1-colour design. + Print your design onto your t-shirt. Week 2: + Sew your t-shirt on our Janome machines, with support from Charlotte Powell. + Learn to finish your edges with a neat hem or overlocking. Attendees will ideally have some previous experience using a sewing machine but do not need any prior experience sewing clothes. You do not need any prior experience of printmaking. Bookings include a 50% non-refundable deposit so please check you can make both dates before booking.
